About the producer
Litlabýli treats were created at the request of guests who stayed with us at our guesthouse Litlabýli. At Litlabýli, breakfast was offered with an emphasis on home baking and there was homemade jam, marmalade and marriage bliss. Guests at Litlabýli would ask to buy marriage bliss from the breakfast buffet, but as everyone knows, it wouldn't be much to spend on it after many days in a suitcase. The recipe for marriage bliss belongs to the family stew and the same goes for jams. I then steal the rhubarb from my grandmother's garden. Our rhubarb garden is in Ingjaldssandur next to a smokehouse where grey mullet, ham and sausage rolls were smoked years ago and the ashes were then spread over the garden, which gives it this unique taste. The rhubarb we use in our jam is Vínrhubarbari, it is finer, sweeter and redder than the one generally known. I am the fifth generation to pick rhubarb from this garden and use it for cooking. Rhubarb is the one herb that always grows no matter what the weather is like and is best picked in midsummer.
